I found the problem:

It was a list info access problem that cause the 
listmanager/info/listname URL to fail.

I found that family config.tt2 contains an info setting.

"info" needs to be set to an available scenario files (info.open and 
info.private are the two that came with Sympa).  I changed info from 
"private" to "open" in the family config.tt2, refreshed (create new list 
config) and reloaded (update config.bin) the list configuration and 
viola, problem solved.
