PostgreSQL Peer Authetication ist not a part of the offical Postgres Documentation. In Debian the /etc/postgres/pg_hba.conf (Postgresql > 7.1(?))contains the line:
local all peer sameuser
and you have to change it to:
local all trust
and then the sympa and wwsympa dbi authentication works (Installation and Operation).
