We have fixed the SMIME problems you reported in Sympa development version.
It includes :
        
        o smime_encrypt() is repaired

        o smtp::mailto() manages signed/encrypted mails,
          including messages with Base64 parts

        o multipart/signed messages are recognised as 'signed'

This version is available for testing :
