Hi Otto,

thank you for your feedback,

Thanks for this hint! I'm not quite sure what would happen if the new
list were closed, would Sympa be smart enough to delete the manually
added aliases, or would also that removal need to be handled manually?

no, I've tested it and when you close/remove the list the added alias (old-name) in sympa_transport aren't removed so you have to edit it.

Should anyone write to the old-name he/she would get a reply "Unknown list" about new-listname.

I'd say that even in this case, as for sympa_transport, you have to edit a file, /etc/aliases, when you close new-listname list.

Thank you
cheers Stefano

an owner renamed a mailing list but needs to receive emails to the
old name forwarded to the new one; I've edited /etc/sympa/
sympa_transport like this:

address@concealed sympa:address@concealed
address@concealed sympa:address@concealed
address@concealed sympa:address@concealed
#address@concealed sympa:address@concealed
address@concealed sympa:address@concealed
address@concealed sympabounce:address@concealed

and I've reconstructed db file `postfconf hash:sympa_transport`.
I've done some tests and it works but do you see any cons or are
there alternative/proper methods?

As I wrote on 2025-05-22 ("Subject: Correct way to rename list and
forward old address?") I had been unable to figure out the "proper"
way to do this – clearly this would be it.

What I ended up doing at that point was simply to add

old-listname:    address@concealed

in /etc/aliases which will produce bounces of the format
