Under "Sending/Receiving" for each list there is an option:

"Reject mail from automatic processes (crontab, etc)? (reject_mail_from_automates_feature) (default)"

This seems to be working fine for us (being set as "off").

We run a Sympa installation at the University and we have come across an issue where users have set up crontabs to email mailing list.

The emails are sent with header:

Auto-Submitted: auto-generated

This is rejected by Sympa as message appears to be auto-reply (see: sympa/ProcessIncoming.pm at main · sympa-community/sympa · GitHub)

However cron is following: RFC 3834: Recommendations for Automatic Responses to Electronic Mail (rfc-editor.org) in labelling as such.

The only way round, we havefound, is to have the crontab explicitly email the response, rather than relying on cron to do.

What do others do?

I do not think this is a bug in Sympa, just a clash of standard vs detecting mail loops & out of office messages.
