Hi everybody,

Putting this thread on English list, I hope that I will have more success for helping me than the thread I pu on French list…and here I give some more details of what I want to install..

I am in the way of trying to install the sympa solution to replace yahoo group.

I got your link from Framaliste that has already installed it, but Framalist put some limitations that is blocking us. So, as I have some knowledge of linux (but very poor, just because I did not work with such system since many years;…), I decided to test installing sympa on such system.

First, I give you what are my queries, to know if what I want to do is possible…

  • I have one domain that I will name for example: mydomain.org
  • This domain is hosted today by GANDI.
  • I already have some mailbox also hosted by GANDI mail system.
  • I have a web site hosted on Windows server VM stored in Azure. DNS is configured by GANDI to redirect to this hos for mydomain.org and www.mydomain.org

What I would want:

  • Use sympa so that users can manage a mailing list/forum through the address: address@concealed.

Well, until now, I deployed an UNBUTU image on Azure. The machine has a public IP address (ports 25, 80 are open in firewall)  and I registered this IP address in DNS record on GANDI with an A record on sympa.mydomain.org.

I succeeded installing all requirements and sympa package. I could even display the sympa web portal at http://sympa.mydomain.org/wws

I succeeded one time configuring, with some difficulties, a mail environment on UBUNTU to redirect SMTP to GANDI smtp (but now, I have done something and it does not work anymore)…and with this configuration I could register myself, create an account, create a list…everything worked in output…but I was blocked to configure in the other direction. How the sympa server could get mail from the address address@concealed.

Now I really need help to configure everything about mailing configuration on the linux machine and/or on GANDI hosting with correct DNS, mails and so on…

Can someone give me the easier way to do that ? I do not have any preference on what mail configuration to use (sendmail, PostFix, or others…)

Perhaps the first thing to do is to give me the correct choice when I do the apt-get install on sympa when I have to choose the way I want to manage mail.

I did not found any explanation on help about this screen.

It's better for you to use address@concealed for the sympa server. Leave *@mydomain.org alone.
I use Exim as the MTA with sympa. I could help you out with the configuration, but using Postfix is pretty well documented too:
