I like this way of doing it - it seems far neater, if this is your main goal 
rather than anything more general.  

The main reason we do it via an external file is to keep it consistent with 
the blacklist and whitelist methods, where both require adding identities 
which are not necessarily list members, and so it cannot be done using a 
subscriber metadata attribute.  Also, using a search_filters text file allows 
you to use pattern matching rather than explicitly listing individual 
addresses, if this is something you need.
