Thanks Steve.  Will experiment with the approach that you've outlined below, especially since seems to have changed quite a lot from the time that the patch proposed at

was written.

It would be good if there is a reliable way to have an inline footer to be displayed via Sympa 6.X for "common" email clients (regardless of whether the original email was sent in HTML or plain-text)  :-).

With Thanks,

(I would think most modern clients would just render this beneath the main
part of the message - can't really see why
it would differ to the "text/plain" scenario being used at present.)
You can do this using the message.footer.mime file. By creating this file
(instead of message.footer) looking somewhat akin to the example below, you
can specify a content type and disposition, and so get your footer created
as a separate text/html and text/plain pair in a multipart/alternative ,
with the inline disposition set. In theory, this should cause the footer to
be appended to the main message.

However, in Outlook 2013 at least, you instead get the two alternative
footers (text and html) displayed as attachments.

In Yahoo webmail, it is correctly displayed with the two HTML portions (main
message and footer) inline. Hooray, Yahoo have done one thing right this
week. Gmail also display it inline as we wanted.

Of course, none of these footers are appended if you have an SMIME signed

------cut example message.footer.mime here
Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="_x_1234567890"
Content-Disposition: inline

Content-Type: text/plain;
Content-Disposition: inline

This is the message footer in text in the multipart file

Content-Type: text/html;
Content-Disposition: inline

<HTML><HR />
<B>This is the footer in HTML in the multipart file</B>
<HR /></HTML>

-------------- end message.footer.mime here -----------------------

I think the problem with HTML footers is that Sympa would not know where to
add them.

It can add a separate MIME-multipart section already, or can append a text
footer to a text message, but if you have an HTML footer, where does it go?
It cannot append it to an HTML message, is it would then be outside the main
HTML and BODY tags. It would need some complex parsing to insert into the
middle of the HTML somehow, which may or may not work depending on the rest
of the HTML.

Setting footer type to MIME just makes the text footer get appended as a new
MIME multipart section.

I'd love to be able to add an HTML footer but I think it would require Sympa
to do some more complex HTML parsing and editing on the main HTML message

hello list

is there a possibility to add a footer in html-format to mails generated
by sympa?

i tried this one like described in the documentation

when i paste sone html-code in the field the footer ist nevertheless
sent as plain/text.

i also added footer_type mime to the
/var/lib/sympa/list_data/draft/config file but no changes.
