Yes, since it takes time for a list-approval request to go through the service desk, list owners want to begin pre-populating their lists.  As the list members are going to be UoA staff or students, we don’t have any problems with them not being notified (this would of course be different for corporate customer mailouts and more spammy stuff), and no problems with the list being pre-poulated before approval (as long as no messages are distributed to it).  So, it’s a feature…

 

To us (though not necessarily to everyone else) the important thing is that no mails are distributed by the list until it is opened, and this is the case.  We’d be

 

As you say, it should be pretty simple to put a check for the list status in the ‘you have joined’ mail template (if this information is passed to the TT2 function…) so the notification email could remind the new subscriber that the list is not yet active.

 

I still also like the idea or editing the web_tt2 template so that the ‘notify’ check box is unchecked and disabled when the list is not open – though you could similarly disable the entire ‘add’ box in this case if you want to stop people being pre-subscribed.
