Yes you should copy them ~sympa/etc/mail_tt2 and ~sympa/etc/web_tt2 in
order to define your own default for all your virtual robots. Future
update will not erase your files.

If you want to customize just one robot use
~sympa/etc/<robotdomaine>/mail_tt2
If you want to customize a list use
~sympa/expl/<robotdomaine>/<listname>/mail_tt2
