AWStats reads off of the mail log on your server (for example,
/var/log/mail for postfix) and generates its statistics that way. This
works out in my case since Sympa sends mail through postfix; AWStats
simply assumes the list names are normal e-mail addresses, so it works
very well. I haven't figured out how to get AWStats to read directly
from Sympa's log, mainly because the /var/log/mail stats are Good Enough
for my needs.

Here's instructions on how to set up AWStats for all types of mail servers:

http://awstats.sourceforge.net/docs/awstats_faq.html#MAIL

I'm not all that familiar with AWStats beyond what the FAQ says, so
their mailing lists would probably be a better source of information
beyond that.

Best of luck!

Paul
