I simply did not have a alias in my httpd.conf to static_content
I drew the wrong conclusions because at the moment I was messing around with sympa.pl, another was messing around with httpd.conf.

thanks for your time.

First of all : I'm highly interested in the logs produced by sympa.pl when you ran it.
Briefly: Running sympa.pl without paramters must not change anything in you web server. That's clearly a faulty behaviour. That's why I want to understand how it happened.
For now:  You have no style because you have no CSS. Please check the Sympa parameters related to the CSS definition (css_path, css_url, staic_content_path or staitic_content_url) in wwsympa.conf or robot.conf files.
There is a reference about how the CSS files are handled in Sympa:
https://www.sympa.org/manual/customizing#css_files

However, note that it is enough to just define the following line in your apache config file:

Alias /static-sympa {path to your sympa installation directory}/static-content

And make sure that none of the previously cited parameters are cutomimzed in your config.

I ran sympa.pl with no parameters, by mistake, and now my main page has no style, its now plan text.

I have shutdown apache, and killed sympa services, and restarted apache again, but my page is still unformatted.
