Hi All,

I'd like to be able to specify in LDAP alternate email addresses for our
users so that they can send email from any of their email addresses to a
closed list and be authenticated properly. Just listing them all as
primary email addresses won't work because then they will get a copy
of emails from the list at all the different addresses they own. So,
I want a closed list to accept many different addresses for a each
user for inbound mail but send to only one address for each user for
outbound mail - and as I say, I'd like to manage that with LDAP. Is
there a way of doing that?

Cheers,

Hi Warren,

I know there's an option in the LDAP data source configuration
called "selection (if multiple)" which can be changed from "all" to
"first". It seems that would solve the multiple recipient problem
but I'm not sure if it addresses the authentication problem.

Hi,

I've asked this question a few days ago on the sympa-fr list and David Verdin answered me the alternative_email_attribute (which should have this role) in auth.conf has not effect because of problems. However the solution you give could be used to do that.

Response of David Verdin <https://listes.cru.fr/sympa/arc/sympa-fr/2009-02/msg00030.html> :
It's unfortunately normal. The management of alternative emails don't work well (nor has a simple solution in the case of mailing lists) and we desactivated this fonctionnality. Although it is still possible to save an alternative email, this one is no more taken into account.

Sébastien
