Yes they are, but starting with version 5.5 (currently only trunk 
version on subversion server) pasword are strored as md5 fingerprint so 
it is not possible to decrypt them. remind password feature is replaced 
by a change password with email challenge authentication.

md5 in scenario is just a key word. It is ised for any authentication 
methode which equivalent to an email chalenge because password are  
allowed by email challenge. So, it match  for email confirmation or for 
web operation based on password authentication etc.
