Is it possible to use multiple authentication sources with sympa?

I'd like to setup sympa to attempt authentication using LDAP, and if that
fails
try to authenticate using the database.

If that's not possible, perhaps having 2 sympa web frontends would work. One
would use LDAP for authentication and the other the database.
That 's not usefull. What you are asking for is a standard feature. Check authentication section in the reference manual http://www.sympa.org/manual/authentication#auth.conf

"When users hit the login form, each ldap or |user_table| authentication paragraph is applied unless email adress input from form matches the |negative_regexp| or do not match |regexp|. |negative_regexp| and |regexp| can be defined for each ldap or |user_table| authentication service so that administrators can block some authentication methods for a class of users."
