Considering the drawback, this won't be an option, then. Providing the
listname is this context would be useful, though.

As far as I read the documentation, list_check_smtp can be set to a SMTP
server address, thus making Sympa check if the list already exists on the
server. There's probably something I miss here - do you suggest implementing
the name validity check on the SMTP server? I don't clearly see how that can
be done nicely.

I am considering patching Sympa to support enforced pre- and postfixes for
list names. I might be doing that in my spare time anyway, since it'd make
Sympa more attractive for another sysadmin environment around here.
