Sympa archiving process is described here :

The archived.pl daemon do system calls to the program defined by the 
"mhonarc" wwsympa.conf parameter.
You can set this parameter to the path of a home-made program that does 
the archiving. The only constraint is that your script need to comply to 
the mhonarc program API. See the calls in archived.pl for more details.
