These symptoms are due to the way Sympa encodes web pages. Until the current 5.2.1 version, web pages are encoded using the charset defined in each messages catalog. Web page are iso-8859-1 encoded in French, utf-8 encoded in English, iso-8859-2 encoded in Hungarian.
Next release will manage (already does in CVS) encoding much better : all web pages will be utf-8 encoded, thus allowing mixure of different writings in a single page. The recoding is performed using the powerfull Encode perl module.
You'll have to cope with this until Sympa 5.3 is released.

I'm running sympa 5.2.1. The web page defaults to English ("lang en_US" in sympa.conf) and
"supported_lang" or "web_recode_to" have not been set in sympa.conf.
When loading the web page and clicking on the drop down language selection list I see "Espa?ol" and
"Francais", selecting either of these languages and clicking the drop down list again now see
"Español" and "Français" (i.e. the properly accented characters). Selecting English it reverts
back.
My browser is Firefox 1.5.0.1 and I'm wondering what's going on, I would like
to see the properly accented characters when English is selected as the
default. Any suggestions on what I need to do to get this going?
