Hi Brian,

This feature has been introduced in Sympa 5 release with the 'family' feature.
A list family includes a list template than can be instanciated with a set of data coming from your Information system.
This feature allows you to automatically create bunch of lists sharing common caracteristics.

Here is the related documentation : http://www.sympa.org/doc/html/node18.html

I am looking at testing sympa at my college, but had a quick question for the list first. We are looking for a list management program that is completely dynamic (via the database). Basically, we want to dynamically create lists for each class that we teach, and add the students automagically to the correct lists. Is this possible with sympa? (save me the trouble of testing it out on a rainy day?). We don't want to have to create lists by hand, and don't need the web page features, just a program that will automatically lookup lists in the database, see if they exists, and send the message on to the users that are listed on this list.. The documentation is a little confusing on this point.
