Hi Olivier,

first of all i`d like to mention, that most of new features are very common for me (hope so for others as well). Nevertheless i have some open questions on the new features of sympa 5.

It is mentioned, that sympa 5.x can extract its owners and moderators from an external datasource. Does it include LDAP?

Yes it does ; you can include owners via any existing 'include_xx' method.
Here is the documentation : http://www.sympa.org/doc/html/node19.html#SECTION001916000000000000000
What about the msg.pl, does it still exist or is it possible to handle messages from msg.pl like other templates in different languages (e.g. Handle $subscription_need_auth like Welcome.tpl, Welcome.de.tpl aso.)?

No msg.pl has been removed because every translatable string is now gathered in a PO file ; it makes the translation job much easier.
You can still customize any mail or web templates (now in TT2 format). For those error strings that are still in the code, sympa 5.2 will move them to mail templates, so you can customize them easily (this work has already been done ; we just need to release 5.1 and merge branches).
What effect has the new template format using TT2?

It is very similar to the home-made TPL format but it is much more powerfull (see http://www.tt2.org).
Moving to TT2 format made it possible to maintain a single set of templates (not one per langage) with references to PO catalogues.
When is Sympa 5.1 sceduled to be released, because of the css version?

Sympa 5.1b.1is running on our ML server ; it will become sympa 5.1 within the next few days.
Will there any upgrade scripts available to migrate from 4.1.x to 5.1?

Yes, when you will run sympa.pl the first time after the upgrade, it will perform the following actions :
  1. automatically migrate all xx.tpl files on your server to **.tt2. Note that your old web templates require some work still, because the web interface design has changed A LOT
  2. start a rebuild process for all the web archives (also because of the new TT2 format)
If you don't feel confident about the upgrade process, read this section of the documentation :
http://www.sympa.org/doc/html/node5.html
