The FAQ advice says: "Q3.34 -- What does "foo not available for
sendmail programs" mean? ... you need to create a sym-link from
smrsh's directory for restricted programs".
That advice seems to be most appropriate for sendmail "unknown
mailer error", and not appropriate.

(1) Sometimes, if sendmail says

"554 : "|/etc/smrsh/queue sympa"... Service unavailable"

then the problem can sometimes be fixed by doing this:

chmod a+x /home/sympa/bin
chmod og-rw /home/sympa/bin

*-------------------------------------------------------------------
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
: "|/etc/smrsh/queue sympa"
(expanded from: <address@concealed>)

----- Transcript of session follows -----
sh: queue not available for sendmail programs
554 : "|/etc/smrsh/queue sympa"... Service unavailable
*-------------------------------------------------------------------

(2) A bad link from /etc/smrsh, or no read access, can lead to this
sendmail error message:

"|/etc/smrsh/sympa2smartlist.pl ...-list"... unknown mailer error 255

(3) Another problem that can occur is when queue fails and it has no
suid bit(s) set (chmod *+s queue) and there also is no write access
to the sympa/spool/ directory.
