My understanding is that this domain name is the property of RENATER,
i.e., national property, and therefore cannot be freely used by the
community.

This means that the various permissions associated with the domain name
(e.g., modification of DNS records, purpose of use of the servers
operating under the domain name, etc.) must also be controlled by the 
appropriate body (e.g. "Sympa Foundation" or "Sympa Inc.").

We don't have the money, time, or manpower to spend on such things (if
we did, we would spend it on other things, won't we?).

So we decided to set up our own domain name and server.


Above is my personal opinion, so there may be others who see it
differently.
