ARC is the latest invention from the people who brought us DMARC. As we all know DMARC does bad things to mailing lists, so ARC is supposed to fix or at least mitigate it. ARC adds a chain of signature headers similar to DKIM signatures to mail messages that give a recipient system an idea of the path a message took, so a sophisticated recipient (like, say, gmail) can use to decide to disregard DMARC rejection advice.

I have recently added ARC support to the Mail::DKIM perl module which the module's maintainer has checked in as version 0.50. Adding ARC signatures is pretty much the same as adding DKIM signatures, with the added detail that list software needs to check for existing ARC signatures in messages on the way in (before making any changes to the message) so it can link new to old ARC signatures appropriately.

On my Sympa installation, for largely historical reasons I do ARC and DKIM signing in shims in front of and behind Sympa rather than in Sympa itself. But it would be a favor to Sympa users for Sympa to add ARC signatures whenever it adds DKIM signatures.

Who should I talk to? Tnx.
