Hi Annie,

There is a dedicated doc about upgrading a server, including when you move to new hardware : https://www.sympa.org/manualtest/upgrading

Basically, you should install a new Sympa 6.0.1 on the new server without the data of the previous server. Check that everything is working fine by creating a dummy list.
Then you will sopt the old server, backup the data, move them to the new server.
Then you change the version number in "etc/data_structure.version". This file contain only the version number. change it to your previous version number (5.3).
Then launch "sympa.pl --upgrade". It will update the config files and, if you use mySQL or SQLite, the database.

Hi,

I have to move sympa from an old server with sympa 5.3 to a new server with sympa 6.0


Is this better to install a new empty sympa 6.0 and to populate it with a tool with my old database, arch, ...
            is "sympa.pl --upgrade" able to do that ?

or install sympa 5.3 with the old data and to upgrade sympa and database together ?

     sympa.pl  --upgrade --from=X --to=Y   

In fact, I am looking for "how to", "tips" and so on
