Hi.

I'd like to get feedback on the following idea for Debian packages for
sympa.

The current Sympa packaging in Debian suggests installation of either
mysql or postgres, and tries to adapt dynamically.

This leads to potential missing dependencies which are unsatisfied if
either of the database servers are installed. Such dependencies can't be
resolved statically since there's no way to know beforehands which DBMS
would be installed.

I think it would be insteresting to have separate packages which would
only take care of dependencies on those DBMS, named for instance
sympa-mysql and sympa-postgresql, on which sympa would depend in turn.

These packages could provide all the required dependencies.

This would also help provide sympa for users of one of the servers even
though there may be blocking problems with anotherone.

Similar approach may be used for wws, soap server and likes, to have
that resolved statically instead of dynamically ?

Racke, have you thought about such options ?

Your comments are much welcome.

Thansk in advance.

Best regards,
