You can provide only basic privileges to Sympa (INSERT, SELECT, UPDATE, 
DELETE) for its current tasks. However while upgrading Sympa may update 
the DB definition to add new fields /tables or alter existing ones. This 
requires more privileges.

However in a packaged environment like Debian things are different and 
basic privileges might be sufficient.
